Thank you Fast Lane Travel for supporting the 2017 Steubenville Nutcracker Village by adopting a nutcracker! There are over fifty new nutcrackers this year, all of which have been carved and assembled with such care that Santa Claus is going to have to raise his own manufacturing standards! The magic didn't happen overnight though. One of the initial motives of the Nutcracker Project was to include the community as a whole, so we went in search of elves from local schools, clubs, and establishments, who then designed and brought each nutcracker to life. After hours of meticulous painting, gallons of glitter, and a touch of Christmas Spirit, the latest additions to the nutcracker world are nearly ready for their big reveal!
All of us at Fast Lane Travel, Inc. have been blessed with good health, homes, education and the ability to travel. Because of our blessings, we are committed to giving back to our community as an essential part of the way we operate. And it has been scientifically proven that giving back is healthy for you!
Individually, members of the Fast Lane Travel staff give back to the community in many different ways, specifically by coaching youth basketball and soccer; reading to the blind; participating in Habitat for Humanity projects; raising money for American Heart Association and American Cancer Society walk-a-thons; volunteering at homeless shelters and food banks; and providing donations to Goodwill Industries, the Salvation Army and Susan G. Komen breast cancer fund.
Fast Lane Travel tries very hard to be “good citizens” in our local community. For example, in 2015, we purchased a new network printer that took the place of several smaller printers we used. Rather than sending the used printers to a landfill, we donated the printers and other computer equipment to a local school for children with learning disabilities.
However, over the years, Fast Lane Travel, Inc. has provided significant support to the following three projects: the China Bridge Summer Camp, Clothes to Kids and West Liberty University Foundation.
The History of Fast Lane Travel, Inc.
In the beginning…
Fast Lane Travel, Inc. was founded in 1976 by Peter Sontag, our owner and current CEO, based on a serendipitous family dinner.
First some family background… Peter’s brother-in-law, a physician in upstate New York, decided to purchase a Porsche when he was a student in Basel, Switzerland and brought it back to the U.S. when he returned. In the early 1970s, several of his physician friends also owned Porsches and when they’d get together, he would brag about how he got to drive his Porsche the way it was designed to be driven: e.g., fast, when he lived in Europe. Of course, the other physicians were envious! They also discussed going to see the factory in Stuttgart that produced their Porsche “baby” – something that none of them had ever done.
Proud US Citizen
Happy to be an American - Local friends of peter Sontag gathered Sunday at the Steubenville Country Club to celebrate the Austrian native's 50th anniversary of his first vist to the U.S. Sontag spent his later teen years in Steubenville and later became a U.S. citizen and successful businessman.
