COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH

JUL 11 – JUL 19

USA – drive your own porsche

10 PORSCHE Driving Days

We have created an awesome U.S. PORSCHE Fest, based on repeated requests, by FAST LANE TRAVEL, Inc. past customers. I quote: “Please create a U.S. tour where we can drive our own PORSCHES but enjoy the same ambiance, quality and enjoyment we have become accustomed to from a Fast Lane Travel PORSCHE FEST Tour in Europe.” Thus we have designed the 2019 Colorado Rocky Mountain High PORSCHE FEST.

Since many of our past participants missed our first Colorado PORSCHE Fest we are repeating it this year.

DAYS 1-7

Wednesday, July 10

Early Arrival in Denver to Colorado Springs (~80 miles)

As always, we recommend that you arrive on Wednesday July 10th, 2019 to pick up your PORSCHE and enjoy a leisurely drive to Colorado Springs. Arriving on Wednesday means that you won’t miss out on the exciting event we have planned during the day on Thursday, July 11th in Colorado Springs. After you arrive in Denver, please take a taxi or Uber to Prestige PORSCHE in nearby Lakewood. If you shipped your PORSCHE, it will be waiting for you there. Our luggage truck will be waiting as well to transport all
your luggage that doesn’t fit into your PORSCHE to our hotel in Colorado Springs.

We’ll provide PORSCHE shipping information at your request. The goal is to get as many PORSCHES as possible onto one truck to reduce cost per vehicle. The cost, one way, runs around $1,000 to $1,500 depending on your location. Your car will be picked up approximately one week before arrival in DEN.

From the Prestige PORSCHE Dealership drive south approximately 80 miles on I-25 to our hotel, the stunning Cheyenne Mountain Resort, our home for the next three nights. Set at the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains, Cheyenne Mountain Resort features a diverse selection of recreational facilities, leisure activities and programs that embody Colorado’s active spirit. Massive beams, rough-sawn siding, and native rock give the resort an updated mountain lodge ambiance. This evening, we will gather for a wonderful dinner at the hotel where you will meet your fellow PORSCHE enthusiasts and drive guides. Sleep well tonight in the clean mountain air!

Colorado Springs Day Trip to Air Force Academy (~50 miles round trip)

Enjoy a leisurely late breakfast, to accommodate today’s arrivals, at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort before departing from the hotel at 11:30 am for a short drive to the U.S. Air Force Academy (no lunch today).

We will be met by MG (Ret) Mark Volcheff, President and CEO of the U.S. Air Force Academy Endowment and a Class of ’75 graduate, for a special tour of the campus including the stunning Cadet Chapel designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. We will also tour the newest building on campus, Polaris Hall – a.k.a. the Air Force Academy’s Center for Character and Leadership – also designed by the same architects, as well as several other buildings on campus. A special note of gratitude goes to Peter’s friend and former co-Board Member of World Air Holdings, Inc., Gen. Ron Fogleman for arranging our entrée into the Air Force Academy.

This evening, we’ll meet for cocktails and then enjoy a relaxing early Welcome to Colorado dinner in the hotel. Enjoy a good night’s rest in Rocky Mountain splendor.

Colorado Springs – Day trip to Pikes Peak (~70 miles)

Enjoy another delightful breakfast at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in preparation for the first of our many spectacular Rocky Mountain drives. We’ll depart from our hotel after breakfast and embark on the 19-mile scenic journey above the clouds to the summit of Pikes Peak! From the entrance at an elevation of 7,400 feet, we’ll encounter some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world as we wind our way through an Alpine wonderland of scenic beauty, mountain reservoirs, beyond the timberline, overtaking the clouds… all along the way to the 14,115-foot summit of America’s most famous mountain. We will provide supplemental oxygen for those of you not used to the higher elevation.

Once we come down from the clouds, we’ll enjoy lunch at The Winery at the base of Pike’s Peak in Cascade, Colorado.

After we return to the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to relax at the hotel or perhaps enjoy some of the activities and amenities offered there.

Enjoy another delightful breakfast at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. We’ll depart in our PORSCHES for the luxurious Gateway Canyons Resort on the western edge of Colorado.

As we drive west along US Route 50, we will parallel the Arkansas River, going through beautiful Big Horn Sheep Canyon to Salida and crossing the Continental Divide at Monarch Pass at an elevation of 11,312 feet. The climb up and descent from Monarch Pass is pure pleasure and includes some spectacular views. We’ll stop in Gunnison for lunch at Garlic Mike’s before turning north on US 50 until we reach Route 141 and Gateway Canyons Resort, the gateway to the red rock canyon lands of Western Colorado. Gateway Canyons 5-Star Resort offers an equestrian center, an outdoor adventure center where you can rent paddle boards and kayaks to use on the nearby Dolores River, or arrange for guided rafting and fly fishing tours, hikes and rock climbs. You can take a helicopter tour of the surrounding canyon and the new “Driven Experiences” luxury driving experience has brought a stable of luxury cars to the resort, which you can rent for a day of cruising the scenic canyon lands (just in case you want to try something different). Of course, horseback riding is available. You may also rent a helicopter and enjoy the magnificent scenery from the air. If relaxation is more your speed, there are two outdoor pools and Jacuzzis and a full-service spa that offers everything from thirst-quenching facials to Swedish massage, manicures and pedicures. So make your plans for our FREE DAY on Monday, July 15th with the staff at the Gateway Canyons Resort.

Day Trip to Durango and the Million Dollar Highway (~385 miles)

Enjoy a delightful breakfast at the Gateway Canyons Resort and get prepared for one of the most exciting adventures that Colorado has to offer. We’ll leave the hotel at 9 am to drive to Durango, located in the Animas River Valley surrounded by the San Juan Mountains. The city was established by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company to serve the silver mining enterprises in the area. We’ll enjoy lunch at the historic Strater Hotel, built in 1887 and one of the West’s iconic hotels, filled with the largest collection of American Victorian walnut antiques and beautiful handcrafted woodwork. You might want to step back in time and check out the Belle Girls in their period costumes in the Diamond Belle Saloon!

After lunch, we’ll head north to drive one of THE most incredible roads – the Million Dollar Highway, part of the San Juan Skyway. Forget about your standard driving safety measures like guardrails and shoulders, there aren’t any on this stretch of road, so swerving off the road is not advised! From Durango, through Silverton and Ouray, to Ridgway, the highway delivers jaw-dropping vista after vista. The road climbs up three very high mountain passes: Red Mountain Pass (11,018 ft.), Molas Pass (10,970 ft.), and Coal Bank Pass (10,640 ft.).

After this incredible day, we’ll drive through gorgeous canyons and return to Gateway Canyons Resort. This evening, we have a very special progressive dinner planned at the Gateway Auto Museum, where you’ll see some of the world’s rare classic American cars, including the one-of-a-kind Oldsmobile F-88 concept car. Each gallery in the museum boasts a different group of special cars and as we wander through, we’ll enjoy a different meal course in each room. You’ll sleep well tonight at Gateway Canyons Resort.
