REPORT ON A PCA TREFFEN –
By Marty Goldsmith
Brita and I returned home on September 26th from one of the 2010 PCA-sponsored Treffens in Stuttgart, Germany. They are Porsche-oriented tours operated by FastLaneTravel.com, and led by Peter Sontag, who has done these tours for over 35 years….
…It took us nearly a week to recover. That is Treffen. Clearly they are extremely well planned and organized, with no expense spared.
PCA PORSCHE TREFFEN – 2010 —
By John MacFarlane
After attending the Escape in September I spent a couple of days in the office and then headed to Stuttgart to attend the PCA Porsche Treffen. This is a PCA function, starting each year in Stuttgart and Zuffenhausen usually at the end of April/early May and September/October. The German word Treffen is defined as “a meeting” and this certainly was a meeting of about 50 PCA members (most with spouses).
The Treffen (an official PCA event) is organized by Peter Sontag who owns Fast Lane Travel, Inc. (his company name should tell you something about the trip). While this was neither my first Treffen (third actually) nor my first time driving the Autobahn with Porsche’s (my 10th) it was the first one where the cars were pre organized through Fast Lane. All aspects of the trip, my pre Treffen 911 and all parts of the Treffen were organized to a “T”. Everything happened as and when it should throughout the official parts of the tour.
Fast Lane Travel lands under the Antonov in Leipzig.
The worlds largest operating airplane…
A FEW COMMENTS FROM THE CROWD:
hat’s off to you on a fabulous trip. I achieved a longtime dream. Your organizational skills are beyond compare and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Again, a wonderful trip….maybe France and Italy next time.
Thanks again, Roger and Koko Downing

In the 911 world, the most recent beast to emerge is the GT2 RS. With a record 620 HP on tap, the Autobahn storming car lapped the famous Nordschleife in only 7:18, over 10 seconds faster than Porsche’s mid-decade super car, the Carrera GT. Not content with merely adding power, Porsche shaved off 154 lbs. from the previous GT2, making the power to weight ratio less than 5 lbs. per horsepower. If you want one, you’d better not wait long, there are only 500 being built. The GT2 RS will debut at the Moscow Auto Show this August.

Those of you attending Parade know I staffed the Fast Lane Travel booth for our Treffenmeister Peter Sontag, who was busy celebrating his 50th Anniversary of his arrival in the U.S. Peter came to Steubenville, Ohio, on the 4th of July, 1960. After hearing the fireworks on the 4th, he wrote his mother that there were shoot’em-ups going on, just like in the cowboys and Indians western movies! Little did he know then that 50 years later the 5th of July 2010, and every 5th thereafter would be declared the official “Peter M. Sontag Day” in Steubenville.
I really enjoyed meeting many of you at Parade, both alums and hopefully future Treffen members.
