As a member of the eponymous Porsche family his name was on the door, as it might be said, but it was the cars Ferdinand Alexander Porsche will be remembered for long after his passing, yesterday, at the age of 76.

Back in the 1950s, Porsche Club of America members began making treks to Germany to visit the factory and see Porsches in their native habitat, calling it a “Tref- fen,” or get-together, in German…
…Starting in 1976, native Austrian and PORSCHE fan Peter Sontag restarted the tradition… It was a rousing success, operating under his company Fast Lane Travel, and has been going ever since.
…It’s my contention that every PORSCHE lover must go on a Treffen once, with a few of us kooky enough to make multiple trips… Peter has said about 40% of Treffen-goers are repeat customers, so it’s quite obvious people are really pleased…
…So what does a Treffen entail? It’s pretty simple… The package is inclusive — Once you buy the airline ticket, Fast Lane Travel takes care of the rest, lodging, food, drink, hotels, Porsches to drive, insurance, fuel, et al.
