2013 Porsche Panamera GTS – The First Drive

2013-Porsche-PanameraFirst Drive: 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS
Jason Cammisa takes a first drive in the 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS and shares his thoughts in this review on Automobile Mag.
An excerpt, “….Porsche Panamera: it now has eight powertrain variations. Eight!…As choices for the rest of us become more and more limited, for the one-percenters who want to differentiate themselves from one another, life just keeps getting better… Nothing against all the other changes — they’re great — but it’s the sound that really sets the GTS apart from lesser Panamera models — and the Turbo. The GTS starts up with a Ferrari-like BWAAP of violent exhaust snarl and hard acceleration will certainly turn heads. Porsche even programmed in some popping on overrun, it’s fantastic.

This might be the perfect Panamera for the one percent of the one percenters who want to set off car alarms as they drive by. Now that’s a niche product.

918 Spyder: The New King Of The Hill?
In the May 2012 CAR MAG article by Georg Kacher he explores the future Porsches… from 918 to Pajun… He writes, “The hottest — and hardest to get — future Porsche sports car will be the 918 Spyder, which is well along in its development two years after it debuted as a concept at the Geneva auto show. Conceived as a successor to the 2004 Carrera GT, the 918 Spyder aims to offer even better performance. That’s no easy task…”

Would you chop the roof off the 911?

911-CONVERTIBLE
Porsche 911 Cabriolet review -
Does chopping the roof off the latest Porsche 911 blunt its driver appeal?

A review article in The Telegraph by Chris Knapman tells the story… An excerpt reads, “Welcome to the wonderful world of 911 convertibles, a land first visited with the 911SC 30 years ago. It’s a formula that shouldn’t work – the 911′s rear-engined configuration has always made it a sports car with an edge, which in a coupé makes sense. Chop the roof off and what you’re left with is a slightly wobbly edge, like a tent that’s missing a pole…”

The Macho Car for Mere Mortals… Porsche 911

Posted by: | CommentsComments Off

Porsche 911Porsche’s 911: the macho car for mere mortals
Neil Lyndon is pleasantly surprised to stay in control of the new Porsche 911, in his recent Telegraph article

“…the Porsche instructor who was sitting beside me in the new 911, said “If you are tense, you will transmit that tension to the car which will start to behave more nervously itself.” We were probably doing about 130mph at the time, though I was concentrating so fixedly on the undulating, serpentine stretch of track that satirically passes for a straight on the Thruxton circuit that I wouldn’t have dared to glance down at the speedometer…
…Members of a certain school of Porsche 911 enthusiasts will find steam coming out of their ears at the idea that a 911 might become easier to drive if less muscle is applied…”
